Self-portrait, 2009

I am deeply interested in the limits that define the perception of the female body: borderlines between femininity, eroticism, suffering, health and sickness, appeal and repulsion, desire and pity. This is a self-portrait after an IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). The idealized desire of maternity is confronted with the disillusion that comes out of the violence exerted on the female body in order to achieve it; something so beautiful coexists with something repulsive, something tender and vulnerable, something erotic and at the same time symbol of the nest of being like the female lap appears violated and under pain.
